In this unique beach resort, there were a lot of elevated boardwalks servicing the water villas. These boardwalks were supported on double piles every 12m with longitudinal beams over the piles on each side and the services running between these beams. These boardwalks were only supporting pedestrian and buggy loads and were located in a completely sheltered area with very minor environmental loads.
Our studies showed that the load on the 12m junction can be supported by a single pile. So we designed a 'U' shaped pile cap which will allow the passage of the services in the middle and deleted half the piles.
